Often times, entrepreneurs ask me, ” What is the first hire I should make when starting my business?” It is an interesting question, because seemingly, there are infinite possibilities and good answers for them, but I always answer the same way. “There are actually 2 positions you should hire for immediately! They are, a 24-HR a day assistant and a 24-HR a day salesperson.” I usually get an array of different follow-up questions after that answer (or the occasions ” What on earth?” blank stare).
For those of you who are wondering, the 24-HR assistant is your CRM, which will assist you in many things from email marketing, to keeping track of who you spoke too and what you spoke about, to getting your appointsments and next day tasks all in line (if you have set it up properly.) The 24-HR sales person is your website. Which is why it amazes me that up to 60% of SMB’s DO NOT HAVE A WEBSITE. Back when I was building websites for a living, I understood there was significant costs and technical know-how involed, but now, there is very little excuse to not have something up.
There are many templates and platforms to choose from, so sometimes just making the choice is half the battle. Many people today are starting to design their own websites, and the results are…mixed. So today, I want to introduce you to a favorite WordPress theme maker of mine, who has themes that fill ANY need (and the results will look nice). Themify.me
30% of SMB's Site Cost as the Reason They Do Not Have a Website.
Themify has been making themes for years, and have only gotten better and better. I was first introduce to Themify when trying to build a site for a client that resembled Pinterest (back when that was cool). I needed a theme to do the heavy lifting for me, so I could worry about the design aspect, more than the functionality. After using their theme, and seeing how they really thought of every detail, so I would not have to go into the CSS of the site just to change some colors, I was a fan. I began using their other themes for others projects (including my own sites). I have been with them since before they released the Ultra theme, which is a gem, and still continue to use them, whenever a website needs to be built quickly. (even this site is built on a Themify Theme!)
Although they have a lot of themes to choose from, I am going to base my review on their ULTRA theme. So let’s begin discussing the different features of using Themify, both the Good and the Bad
There is so much good to be said about using Themify, but let’s start off with the customization ability. Themify really has set the bar high for other theme makers, giving you nearly endless possibilities to customize your website anyway you want without having to touch any code! This alone is worth the price of admission. Having the ability to customize your theme allows you to make 1 theme useful for multiple projects, and also allows you to make different landing pages, or portions of your website, look and act differently, giving you the ability to target different people within one website.
What is you do not know what a good webpage looks like? The ultra theme has you covered, with 140+ preset layouts, you can literally look through what they have, select a layout, and the theme will automatically upload that exact page right into your website, you can even select multiple parts and frankenstein a nice looking page with pieces of different pages. And even with all of this, if your design still looks terrible (like Frankenstein) they have a front-end Drag-N-Drop builder, built right in, so you can look at your site and drop different blocks exactly where you want them, to get the look you’re going for! There really is no limit to the amount of customization.
With all of that said, however, it can be a bit overwhelming to someone who does not know exactly what they want their website to look like. I have dealt with people (and even been guilty of this myself) who had 0 clue what they wanted, and therefore were absolutely lost in the details and taking WAAAYY longer than necessary to finish the website. Also, sometimes when loading the demo content, you get a lot more content than you know what to do with. Of course, you could just go through and delete it, but I would love the option to pick what content from the demo I want to import, and have that imported, instead of importing it all and then figuring out what I want to keep, customize, and discard. But in all honesty, I rather ave too much than too little, and with the predefined layouts, there is a lot of cutting back I can do.
If there is 1 thing that Themify does well, it is serve their customers! There are some themes and theme makers out there that sell themes specifically for 1 look or 1 design, and that is easy to purchase when you want that specific look, but are they going to support you when you want a change? How about constantly evolving their offering to fit needs of the future? Didn’t think so. As good as free themes can be, and as nice as the freemium model can be, the truth is, for a theme, you want there to be support, because stuff breaks, and when it is your website, it is a nightmare.
Themify has many ways for you to get your questions answered including; Forum, Documentation, FAQ’s page, and even YouTube Videos. All of these things combines should answer most of your questions you have in regards to using a Themify theme. If they do not, for whatever reason, you can even contact Themify via Twitter, is send them a good ol’fashioned email, and they will respond within a short period of time. I once had to contact them via email for some billing issue, and they got back to be within 3 days and had the issue resolved before the week was over.
As amazing as this all is, I feel like there is something missing from their customer service experience, and that is instant communication. The fact that they answered my billing question within a week was really good, considering they are a tech company. But honestly, it is something that could have been answered in like 5 minutes, not 5 days. I understand companies not wanting to put a phone number on their website, or even pay a person who speaks multiple languages,(or multiple people who are native in different languages) to man a phone all day. Or even have to try and come up with some sort of business hours, when your clients are literally around the world. But there are other alternatives, like an online chat, that is monitored by the same person who monitors your Twitter? I ave a chat on my website (notice the little guy in a tie on the bottom right of your screen?) and it goes directly to my phpne, so if someone (like you) pushes that little guy and asks a question, i get it immediately and can respond in real time. If I am busy, or it is late, I can set it to “off” and the link will change to an email. This feature would save me and likely thousands of others, time in managing our Themify accounts.
If you read the stat I posted above (in big blue letter) 30% of businesses who do not have a website said that COST was the biggest hurdle for them. I believe that Themify does a really good job of trying to make this a ‘non-factor’. With 4 different pricing points to choose from (one of them being FREE) there really is a soluton to every budget.Even buying just 1 theme (and getting a second 1 free!!) for $49 is a steal, mix in the fact you get 1 year of updates and support, that makes it an amazing deal. For an additional $40 ($89 total) you get access to all of their themes, 12 plugins, 24 builder addons and more, it becomes a website in-a-box. There really is nothing bad to say about Themify’s pricing.
So really, as you can see, there is no reason why a business should not have a 24 H salesperson on staff. Between their quality product, amazing customer service, and pricing for every budget, Themify really is a WordPress theme that everyone should check out.
